What am I doing here??
On this computer.
On this couch.
In this apartment.
In France.
Why am I in France??

[I interrupt you here to offer you a soundtrack to my story]

Honestly, I’m still trying to work that out.
And life in general.
Does anybody out there have the answers?
Anybody at all??

2021, hey??
What a year!
I can’t say I conquered too many mountains.
I didn’t sail any oceans.
I didn’t cycle or hitchhike across any continents.
But finding a place that I could call home, what an adventure that has been.
One of the best of my life!

I know what you’re thinking: Adeena, you’ve become old and boring!
But tell me what is better than having a community you can submerge yourself in and grow with?
If you really are “The average of the people that you spend the most time with,” then I have become fully legend.

I may live in an apartment, but my back garden is designed for running and surfing and sharing.
And enjoying.
And my apartment too actually 🙂
Similar to many other places I’ve chosen to live over the years, when God designed Lagos, he designed it to be enjoyed!

Exceptional colleagues.

Every alleyway is an adventure.

And the sunrises and sunsets…

In 2021:
I found a home.
I published a book.
I grew my tribe.
I didn’t die.

It was a year filled with lockdowns, weird things being shoved up noses, travel restrictions, restaurant restrictions (when there have been restaurants at all), vaccination debates, new normals, and a lot of politics (good thing I don’t own a TV)
But it was a freaking good year.

After the unexpected twists and dramas of 2021,
I can’t say I’m surprised to have woken up in France last week.
But sometimes you have to leave your comfort zone and your home to realise how good your life really is.

I’m sure France is lovely.
And I have heard that one can adapt to the cold.
But it certainly isn’t Lagos.

As the year draws to a close. I am filled with gratitude for the amazing people that I have in my life.
(Even if they are scattered across the planet.)
I am grateful to have a place to call home.
And I thought I would never say it, but I am grateful that I don’t actually have to go outside today, because it is cold out there!

May your 2021 end with thankfulness and gratitude. (And maybe some good people and champagne)
And may your 2022 be packed with great experiences, loving legends, and epic adventures!
