Arms. Legs. Smell. Touch.
A functional body.
Brains.
Blood pulsing through my veins.

Family. Friends. Community.
Teachers. Students.

The sunshine. The rain.
The ocean.
Feet to take me places.
Eyes to see and ears to hear the wonders of the world transpiring around me.

Bicycles and boats.
Adventures.
The hard times I have survived.
Good times.
The random situations that leave my stomach sore from laughing.

Kindness of strangers.
Strangers.

A roof over my head.
My tent and my car for when I want different roofs over my head.

Drums.
Music.
Dance.

Dreams and goals and the people who inspire me to chase them.
The nay-sayers who make me chase my dreams even harder.

Life! This week I am so grateful to be alive!

Why Adeena? Are you on drugs?
No. (Coffee doesn’t count).
Are you tripping?
No. (I got back from my last trip – to Spain – yesterday ????).
Too much fresh air?
Not a chance. (It’s raining outside).
Too much FunEmployment?
Yes, it’s been FUN, but even the tax man is now trying to force me to get a job.

So why then? Why am I so grateful to be alive?
Because I’m looking at life with the glasses that make everything look possible.
Because today I have more than I need.
Because I have dreams and I am ready to chase them.
Because I am not dead.

Where are you at?
What are you grateful for today?
What are you dreaming of, no matter how ridiculous it may be?
What is stopping you from going out there and chasing your wildest fantasies?

As Nkosiphambili E. Molapis so aptly wrote it:
“The ‘good life’ begins when you stop wanting a better one.”
